We adapted the hospital’s image and communication to the understanding and sensitivity of children so that they can understand and accept their illness in the best way possible. The Children’s Hospital, Sant Joan de Déu, a leader in paediatric care, harmoniously combines science, high technology and humanity by respecting people’s dignity. Along these lines, it has included a programme to adapt its image and communication to the understanding and sensitivity of children into its care model. In close collaboration with the specialists of the hospital, a new language was developed in all the areas in which the children interact, with the aim of helping to take away the drama from treatments and surgical interventions. The messages that children receive are adapted, in form and content, to their level of maturity and sensitivity, so that they can understand and take on board their illness in the best way possible, without being alarmed but without being deceived. This image and communication programme improves the quality of life of sick children and highlights the leadership of this hospital in paediatric care.
We told very simple stories which are fun and, at the same time, educational, with highly realistic drawings and texts of our own. Lula is the star (with no defined gender) of the collection of stories that Mariscal has published with RqueR publishing company. The illustrations in the text tell very simple stories that help the youngest children to recognise wild animals or learn what the eggs of different animal species look like, or show, in a fun but educational way, the Mediterranean ecosystem through highly detailed illustrations that reproduce its fauna, flora and habitat. The company Miquel Rius commercialises a collection of stationery and other accessories for children in which Lula is the star of the illustrations and prints. Note pads, files, colouring books, school bags, school cases, pencil cases, bags of different sizes and umbrellas designed by Estudio Mariscal for fans of Lula.
