Working on holiday FOREVER.

Working on holiday FOREVER is a piece of work using panoramic techniques, following an itinerary created by a guide who doesn’t like traveling. The main character is based on a real person whom I came across a few years ago. She was capable of telling me entire stories behind some of the random buildings we saw on the street, from the names of the architects to the exact year in which they were built in. She, however, became sick of everything that I liked about traveling. Working as a guide, she had never been able to take some time off on 'holidays'. She seemed like a stranger to me as she was consistently on edge checking the itinerary over and over again - instead of enjoying the prospect of visiting beautiful Venice in the coming August. In this piece I used a lot of layers in representing  the many different places - such as the airport, hotel, square etc. - and to make time pass from one frame to another.

Though there are many characters, changes in places are solely focused on the main character so that the readers can easily follow her story to the end.

‘무제’ 나도향
우리는 꿈꾼다. 이상경을 꿈꾸고 천당을
꿈꾸고 연화대를 꿈꾸고 선국仙國을
꿈꾸고 모든 행복과 안락을 꿈꾸다.
그러하나 우리의 몸은 어느 때든지
미로와 준험과 공포와 살해와 원규怨呌와
모든 고통과 불평 사이에서 굴러다닌다.
우리는 치인痴人이다. 분자憤者이다.
우리의 몸을 덮은 노곤한 비단이불을
차 던지라.
……
우리는 눈 뜨고 장님이 되지 말고 귀 있고 귀머거리가 되지 말고 입 있고 벙어리가
되지 말고 사지가 멀쩡하고 곰배팔이
앉은뱅이가 되지 말아 우주간에 충만한
공기는 어떠한 음향이든지 우리 귀에
전달하여주며 낮이나 밤이나 온 건곤을
두루 비치는 오색의 광선은 우리 시각을
어느 때이든지 찌른다.
